Casa Corinna by Peppo Brivio (1963)

Casa Corinna, located near Morbio Superiore in Ticino, sits surrounded by vineyards and woodland. Peppo Brivio’s design combines concrete and brick, establishing a regional architectural vocabulary that resonates with historical and social conditions. Upstairs, the main living zone is composed of four cube-like volumes; below, the basement presents these same forms as voids, producing a nested effect when viewed from outside. The arrangement deliberately limits direct sunlight: two window façades are recessed in a niche and small rooftop openings admit only diffused light through variations in ceiling height. Brivio’s work draws on Neoplastic principles, pursuing a freeing of volumes and spatial relationships in a manner akin to Gerrit Rietveld. - May 2025
